Calculating travel times between places

One of the ways I have found Unplan to be useful is for calculating travel times between places. On a recent trip to France, I was sitting in a cafe with train tickets to Avignon, a rental car, and a home-bound ticket from Nice, a bunch of interesting places on a list, but no actual plan or itinerary.

Aside: incidently, this is why the app is named “Unplan”. While I had a few ideas on where to go, I really didn’t have a plan. The app helps me figure out travel plans on the go starting simply from a list of places I was interested in.

My task was to figure out what route made sense from Avignon to Nice to visit some places while keeing the driving manageable. For sure, Google and Apple maps can easily get you travel times between A & B. Where Unplan is useful though is to opening routes in those apps in a rapid-fire way, particularly when you’re not navigating from the current location. I was easily able to get travel times from Avignon to Nice, for example and other locations, to map out an itinerary.

Unplan excels at this particular task: showing your pinned location on a map and allowing you to select from & to destinations to then calculate the route times in Google or Apple maps.
